Anna Hamza

Anna was born 12 years ago. She came to the TunaHAKI Centre after the death of her mother and the subsequent abandonment of her father. With no other relatives to take care of her and his siblings, she was forced to live on the street. She and her siblings lived on the streets for 6 months until TunaHAKI found them. They have been living at TunaHAKI for over 6 years now.

"After performing acrobatics and dance in local community, my plan in future is to teach other children. Street children have good talents. Performing helps me expect a good future. I expect to be a famous artist in the world. I need to see how other children are doing acrobatics. We want to travel to different places to see how they do acrobatics. Acrobatics empower. I need to see TunaHAKI group become a large group. TunaHAKI is happiness. We need a vehicle and a permanent home so we can stay comfortably with our guardian. I am very proud to perform acrobatics as a girl. Girls can! I need a very high education, therefore I hope for school uniform, contribution fees, and stationery."

"The children at TunaHAKI are amazing. When you hear their stories, and the traumas they have been through, it is difficult to believe that they are the same smiling, beautiful and friendly children before you. I know this is due to the work David does with them. Kids that grow up on the streets have very low self esteem and learn not to trust anyone, and yet these kids, through their acrobatic routines, are forced not only to trust one another, but to work together as a team and a family. And at the end of it all, they have something to be proud of. It’s beautiful and it works."
